“If you love to knit, this is one of the most special investments you can make in yarn or a project. Very much worth the splurge!”
Qiviut is Among the Finest and Rarest Natural Fibers in the World
Qiviut is a lovely soft yarn that knits like a dream. Knitters often say that qiviut makes cashmere feel rough in comparison.
A fiber so unique, consider treating yourself to the finest quality yarn worthy of your time and effort. Qiviut does not shed, it's odorless, and retains warmth even when wet.
Qiviut has the smallest production per year than any other natural fiber including Vicuna. Not only a rare beauty but a true experience to knit with.
Gentle on your hands to knit, buttery soft to wear! Extremely warm, lightweight fiber that preserves heat in the winter, while also providing cool, breathable comfort in warmer weather.
Where does Qiviut come from?
From the delicate under-wool of the Arctic Muskox
Muskox are prehistoric goats that currently live in the northern arctic region.
They’re survivals of the last ice age that co-existed with Mammoths and Mastodons.
The insulating warmth of qiviut is one of the principal reasons Muskox can survive the arctic winters.
Their long outer layer, known as the “guard hair” protects the Muskox from the cold arctic winters.
Underneath the long guard hair is the fine undercoat of the Muskox known as qiviut (kiv-ee-ute) in the Native Alaskan Inuit language.
Since Muskox aren’t domesticated, our fibers are collected off the bushes and tundra where the muskox had shed.
Because of this, production is often very limited.

Muskox shed their under-wool fiber naturally each spring, which is then hand-collected from either the tundra, bushes, or branches. We work with locals in Northern communities to gather the fiber.
We get this precious Muskox resource with a clear commitment to social and environmental responsibility.
Also, it is important to mention that we purchase the yarns directly from the source, like Vicuna from Peru, Guanaco from Argentina, Qiviut from the Arctic
